What is the mission of the organization?

 

We are a community of moms of young children here in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Founded in 2001 by a group of local moms, with the mission of providing educational and social opportunities for young children and their families.

 

What is the role of the board of directors?

 

A group of volunteers to run the OBX Mommy and Me Group

 

  • President: oversees all of the on goings of the group. Plans and runs monthly board meetings, aides in the organization and creation of monthly calendar and play dates, contributes to monthly newsletter, oversees fundraising efforts, creates annual budget with treasurer, aides in management of membership and coordinates larger group events and parties.

 

  • Vice President: assists the president in all duties mentioned above, runs board meetings in presidents absence.

  • Secretary: records minutes from monthly board meetings, creates newsletter, issues thank you cards to sponsors and play date host sites

​

  • Treasurer: assist in creation of annual budget, manages bank account, issues reimbursement checks, balances bank account, keeps record of transactions and reports annually to CPA

​

  • New Member & Dues coordinator: accepts new members, sends out new member emails, and adds new members to master membership list​. Issues monthly reminders and collects annual dues from each member

​

  • Play-Date Coordinators: plans monthly playdates for the group, creates a monthly calendar for newsletter, coordinates and schedules paid for playdates, creates Facebook events for each play date

​

  • Philanthropy Chair:  creates/organizes/oversees all fundraising/community service efforts of the group.  Applies for annual grants. ​

  • Facebook: manages Facebook group content, creates recurring posts

​​

  • Instagram: manages Instagram content, creates posts

​​

  • Website: manages website content

​​

  • Meal Train: welcomes new moms with a meal train

How do I join?

​

Search for Outer Banks Mommy and me on facebook and join the group – you must answer all questions before approval. If you have any questions or would like to join without social media, please email OBXmommyandMe@gmail.com

How much is membership?

​

$20/year  

 

What does membership include/benefits of membership?

 

Schedule of weekly play dates, typically 2 paid by group per month. Seasonal parties (Halloween party, summer potlucks, etc). Join a group of supportive mamas and meet other families in the community. Kids are able to be part of a group that serves the community by performing one service act a month. Open discussion for support and tips and local recommendations as well as weekly Sunday sale of items by members.

 

How are dues revenue utilized?

 

Dues are used for playdates (e.g. tickets, supplies, food, event fees), activity packets, and administrative items (taxes and website fees).

 

Can I bring my friend who is visiting with kids to play dates?

 

Yes

 

How do I know who is with the M&M group when I arrive to the playdate?

 

Playdate leaders will denote identification in the Facebook event information

 

What happens when my kids turn 6?

 

Membership will expire. Playdates are geared towards children ages 0 through 5.
